While we as students spend countless hours a day improving our minds, we spend very little time improving our souls. Most colleges around the world have areas known as “quads” which is where students and faculty gather just to simply be. People use them to study, to interact with the community and to be outside in nature. They provide the perfect break from the everyday grind. We, here at Art Center, do not have any social hub such as that.
My goal is to create a modernist, sustainable landscape that provides the whole school with a beautiful and relaxing gathering area. The site will also double as an event space for the ever growing number of fundraisers, benefits, shows, CSE events and galas we host host here at Art Center. It will help create a better outdoor and indoor quality of life while promoting healthy lifestyles and habits for all on campus. But this project is not just about a cool, new lounging place for the community. It is a fully self-sustaining habitat that will set the new eco standards for the campus and maybe one day, the city of Pasadena.
